Makuochi Echebiri is a News Writer for Collider. He has been interested in creative writing from as far back as high school, and he would consume pretty much anything that’s film or TV. However, his truest love lies in the presence of historical epics and thrillers.
Lured by the brilliance of Middle Earth from an early age both in print and on screen, his palate has since expanded to other realms including Westeros, Kattegat among others. He also possesses a great appetite for the stories that emanate from the vastness of space. Even though he is no Avenger.
Obsessed with storytelling and having works of his own that have yet to make it to print, he is content to use that ability to communicate to as many as are reachable. In his spare time, he looks out for avenues where he can aid people aside from his plans to reign over this earthly realm. Yes…you heard that first here.

The modern Western resurgence owes a great deal to Taylor Sheridan. His recent run of genre-defining hits has not only redefined contemporary Western storytelling but also brought renewed attention to similarly themed series that might otherwise have remained niche. Yellowstone stands as the era’s most dominant small-screen success, and since its debut in 2018, audience appetite for ranch-set dramas has surged. One notable beneficiary is Heartland, the long-running Canadian family series that continues to attract widespread interest despite first premiering all the way back in 2007.
With ranches and yeehaws once again commanding TV attention, major streamers have raced to give their audiences a slice of the modern Western boom. Netflix’s most recent attempt came in the form of The Abandons, but despite its claimed $150 million budget and powerhouse cast, it was canceled after a single season. Thankfully, Netflix viewers still have plenty of Western-themed comforts to choose from, including the aforementioned Heartland, which recently returned for its 19th season. For the uninitiated, Heartland is a feel-good family drama focusing on the Fleming family and their titular ranch. A synopsis for the show's first season reads:
"Life is hard on the Flemings' ranch in the Alberta foothills where abused or neglected horses find refuge with a kind, hard-working family. Debts abound and the bank is about to foreclose. Can they keep the ranch running?"
In answering the above question, Heartland has taken its audiences on an emotional rollercoaster ride across 19 seasons. The show first arrived on Netflix in 2014 and has received regular updates, bringing newer seasons to the platform. Following a brief scare that the show was leaving Netflix in its entirety late last year, Heartland is back and surging up the charts. With Season 18 newly available on Netflix and the current Season 19 airing exclusively on UPtv in the U.S., many viewers have been catching up on Netflix, propelling Heartland into the U.S. Top 10, where it currently sits at No. 6, behind chart-topper Bridgerton.
'Heartland' Is Available to Stream on Multiple Platforms
Heartland has steadily grown into a widely acclaimed staple over the past decade and is now more accessible than ever for U.S. viewers. In addition to the 12 seasons currently streaming on Netflix, the series is also available on Peacock and Prime Video, with earlier seasons even streaming free on Tubi. UP Faith & Family remains the only platform that carries the series in its entirety. Season 19 originally aired in Canada from October 5 to December 7, 2025, with the back half of the season beginning its U.S. run on UPtv on January 8, 2026. While there has been no official word on the show’s future beyond Season 19, fans remain hopeful for a 20th season, which many speculate could be the last, giving the long-running series a fitting send-off.
